Wrap up warm this winter

To help you be as prepared as possible for winter, here’s some quick tips on how to stay safe in bad weather.

Winter emergency pack

Before the bad weather approaches, create a winter emergency pack that contains the essential supplies such as Rock salt, sand to improve traction, snow shovels and warm clothing with blankets to keep you warm.

Follow the weather reports

Watch or listen to weather reports for your local area, so you know what to expect and where to travel if the weather turns. If the forecast shows severe weather – do not venture out.

Prepare your car

Getting your car ready is so important, from winter tyres to antifreeze screen wash. But not only that – you should prepare a kit for if you become stranded:

  • Blankets
  • Food and water
  • Tyre pump
  • Rock salt or sand
  • Flashlight or torch
  • First Aid kit
  • Plastic bags
  • Safety triangle

Spending time outdoors

For many people who work or spend a lot of time outdoors, the winter can be a tough time of year but preparing for the elements can help be a little safer outdoors.

  • Wear appropriate outdoor clothing: layers of clothing, thermal garments, hats, gloves and waterproof over garments all help.
  • Make sure your footwear is warm, waterproof and anti-skid
  • Carry a mobile phone
  • Work slowly when doing chores
  • Take plenty of rests
